There it is, it's autumn!
Whoever says autumn says… the return of the faithful (but unwelcome) pack of tissues.
Yes, I'm talking about him: the common cold 🤧.
Stuffy nose, headache, fatigue, terrible nights, energy at rock bottom…
But today you say to yourself: this year, I'm going to block his path from the start, I've decided to get an early start.
You're right! Because the right reflex, the one that works, is to knock it out (him, not us) from the first symptoms or even take preventive action if you feel a "threat" lingering (a virus nearby, severe fatigue, feeling feverish, etc.).
Here is a sheet to get started with one of my favorite weapons: aromatology.
My darling here, without hesitation, it’s the essential oil of radiata eucalyptus.
Why Eucalyptus radiata?
Because it is extremely gentle on the skin, it smells absolutely delicious, it is safe (provided you follow the precautions), and as a bonus it is inexpensive due to its high yield (production).
How to use it?
Here are 3 super simple mini guides to easily integrate it into your routine:
-
Orally: in 1 tsp of honey / on a neutral tablet or a piece of bread: 1 drop, 4 times a day for 2-3 days, as soon as the first signs appear.
-
In massage: mix 1 drop of radiated eucalyptus with a gentle carrier oil (jojoba, sweet almond, calendula, etc.), massage above the sinuses.
-
Steam inhalation:
- Boil water, remove it from the heat, and wait 30-60 seconds.
- Add 2 drops of peppermint, 2 drops of niaouli, 2 drops of radiata eucalyptus. If you only have radiata eucalyptus, use 6 drops.
- Breathe over the bowl for 10 minutes, with your head covered by a towel to concentrate the steam. Ten minutes is a long time… Take this time to listen to a podcast or do a little meditation.
Precautions:
-
Avoid inhalation if you are asthmatic
-
Do not go outside immediately after inhalation: the heat dilates the mucous membranes, making them vulnerable to microbes.
-
Avoid essential oils if you are pregnant
-
For children under 7 years old, refer to a specialized book (I will write an article dedicated to colds for them at some point)
-
Caution, there are several types of eucalyptus; do not confuse them with others like the Globulus, which is much stronger and is better used for lower ENT infections (bronchi).
-
Test a drop on the inside of your elbow before a first skin application (in case of allergies).
